Your eBike is there to make everyday journeys easier, whether you’re commuting to work, running errands around town or simply enjoying a ride on the weekend. And just like any bike, a little regular maintenance goes a long way in keeping every ride smooth, safe and enjoyable.
But when exactly should you bring your eBike in for a service? The answer depends on how often you ride and how much your bike has to deal with along the way.
To make things simple, we have broken it down into three key service moments: your first service, periodic servicing, and a major service.
1. Your first service: 200–500 km or within 6–12 weeks
If you’ve just got a new eBike, your first service is an important one. During those first few weeks of riding, different components can settle into place, so it’s a good time to make sure everything is still properly adjusted, secure and working as it should.
We’ll take a close look at the bike as a whole, paying particular attention to the wheels, brakes, gears, tyres and key connections. We’ll also carry out a general safety check to make sure everything is ready for the miles ahead.
Our advice? Don’t skip your first service. It’s an easy way to catch small adjustments before they turn into bigger problems.
2. Periodic service: every 1,000–2,000 km
Once you have had your first service, regular maintenance helps to keep your eBike performing at its best. For most city riders and commuters, we recommend bringing your bike every 1,000–2,000 km.
How often you need to come in within that range depends on how you ride. If you use your eBike every day, spend a lot of time in stop-and-go traffic, or regularly ride in wet conditions, it makes sense to have it serviced closer to the 1,000 km mark.
During a periodic service, we look at the parts that experience the most wear from everyday riding. That includes the brakes, drivetrain, gears, wheels and bearings, as well as the eBike’s electrical system. We’ll make any necessary adjustments and check that everything is working together smoothly and safely.
Think of it as a regular check-in for your eBike: keeping on top of small signs of wear so you can keep riding without unnecessary surprises.
3. Major service: once a year or every 3,000–5,000 km
For a deeper check, it’s a good idea to book a major service once a year or every 3,000–5,000 km, depending on whichever comes first. This is a more thorough inspection designed to stay ahead of normal wear and tear and bring your eBike back to a smooth, tight and reliable condition.
We’ll inspect the key components of your bike, including the brakes, drivetrain, tyres, frame and electrical system, looking for signs of wear or damage. Where needed, worn parts such as brake pads, belt drive, cables or tyres can be replaced, while other components are serviced or adjusted to keep everything running as it should.
Most importantly, the service includes a complete safety inspection, giving you peace of mind for the miles ahead.
So, when should you book?
As a general guide:
New eBike: 200–500 km or within 6–12 weeks
Regular maintenance: every 1,000–2,000 km
Major service: once a year or every 3,000–5,000 km
Of course, your riding habits matter too. If your eBike is your everyday mode of transport, you ride in challenging weather, or you simply notice that something doesn’t feel quite right, it’s worth getting it checked sooner rather than later.
Regular servicing helps extend the life of your eBike, supports safe riding and keeps every journey running smoothly. So, keep riding and remember to give your bike a little love along the way.
